5 FFA students competed at the Leadership Development Events at the Nielsen Center in West Point Wednesday, November 20th.
Seniors Leah Clark and Landon Bonneau both placed with a Blue Ribbon in Employment Skills. For this contest they develop a Resume, Cover Letter, and References, fill out a Job Application, and prepare Business Cards. At the contest site they Interview with two judges for 10-15 minutes. Finally, they have approximately 10 minutes to hand write a follow up letter.
Junior Cora Cooney competed in Extemporaneous Speaking for the first time earning a Blue Ribbon. Extemp in FFA is just like Speech with the exception that the topics drawn are relevant to Current Agriculture Events. She only had 10 minutes to use the internet and 20 minutes to write and prepare her 4-6 minute speech before it was given.
Our 2 Freshmen competitors were Braxton Parker and Spencer Pickering. They both competed in Creed Speaking. In this event, the student recites the FFA Creed by E.M.Tiffany. This is a 5 paragraph creed that is memorized, rehearsed, and given. After reciting, the judges ask the speaker questions about the meaning of the creed and how it relates to them. Braxton received a Blue Ribbon and Spencer received a Red Ribbon.
We are very proud of all of the students who took on the challenge of public speaking and leadership against approximately 500 other students!
